About the Role
Job Overview:
We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Forensic Structural Engineer to join our investigative team. This role is responsible for evaluating structural failures, determining cause and origin, and conducting root cause analyses of damage to residential, commercial, and industrial structures. The ideal candidate will possess a Professional Engineer (PE) license and have experience producing technical reports suitable for legal, insurance, or remediation contexts.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct site inspections and forensic evaluations of failed or damaged structural systems.
Determine the cause and origin of structural failures, including those resulting from design issues, construction defects, material failures, or environmental impacts.
Perform root cause analysis using established engineering practices and investigative techniques.
Prepare clear, defensible, and technically accurate reports to support insurance claims, legal cases, or engineering consultations.
Collaborate with attorneys, insurers, contractors, and other engineering professionals to communicate findings.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
Active and valid Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Minimum 5 years of experience in forensic structural investigations or related engineering roles.
Proven experience in cause and origin determination and root cause analysis.
Excellent verbal and technical writing skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) certification.
Requirements
E.I.T. Certification Preferred; PE License Required – Must hold an Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) certification; Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly desirable.
Forensic Structural Engineering Experience – Experience in evaluating structural failures, with the ability to conduct on-site investigations and assessments.
Cause & Origin Determination – Proven ability to determine the cause and origin of structural issues, including damage due to design flaws, construction defects, or external forces.
Root Cause Analysis Skills – Strong analytical capabilities for identifying the underlying causes of structural failures using engineering principles and investigative methods.
Technical Report Writing – Excellent technical writing skills to prepare clear, detailed, and defensible forensic reports for use in litigation, insurance claims, or remediation planning.
